Rohe map for Ngāti Mākino.

This rohe map represents the area over which Ngāti Mākino exercises kaitiakitanga for the purposes of the Resource Management Act 1991 and is based on the Area of Interest agreed between Ngāti Mākino and the Crown in the Deed of Settlement signed on 2 April 2011. Ngāti Mākino Area of Interest from the Deed of Settlement [JPG, 690KB].

➤ Ngāti Mākino Iwi Authority notes that tino rangatiratanga is the authority over resources defined in Article II of Te Tiriti O Waitangi; and that kaitiakitanga in the Resource Management Act is the Iwi obligation to get the decision making right within the rohe of an Iwi. While Iwi have agreed areas of cultural interest under their settlements with the Crown, Iwi kaitiakitanga obligations can extend further than geographical boundaries, as these obligations are defined by both territorial and whakapapa relationships. Ngāti Mākino examples are Te Arawa whakapapa connections to Rangitoto and Moehau.
