Primary purpose/kaupapa: The mission of the network is to progressively foster and promote the development, sound management and economic advancement of Māori Authorities and in turn the wider Māori communities they benefit

Governance structure: New Zealand is separated into 11 rohe/regions. Each of the 11 rohe, or electoral districts, is represented by one member on the Executive Committee of the Federation of Māori Authorities Inc. FoMA has it's own written constitution which is available here.

Tūhono


Primary purpose/kaupapa: Tūhono is kaitiaki of the register of iwi affiliation established under the Electoral Act 1993. The register enables Tūhono to achieve its charitable objectives by facilitating links, communication and interaction between iwi organisations and their members. Tūhono provides a network with over 100,000 registered Māori and over 70 Iwi organisations. Tūhono provides a service where Māori are able to register with their iwi organisation and therefore ensure their iwi organisation has their up-to-date contact details. Tūhono has been recognised by the government as the organisation to receive the electoral information of consenting Māori voters.

Urban Māori Organisations


Manukau Urban Māori Authority (MUMA)


Representative Māori Organisation in the Māori Fisheries Act 2004. Representative Māori Organisation in the Māori Fisheries Act 2004.

Primary purpose/kaupapa: MUMA runs an extensive network of initiatives to assist development of the Māori community in South Auckland. These programmes address the range of both social and economic problems faced by the urban Māori community, namely:
- Developing strong female leadership (Toitu Te Wahine)
- Developing parents as both teachers and role models (PAFT)
- Ensuring continuance of education (He Ara Tika)
- Ensuring financial security (Budget and Counselling Services)
- Reintegrating former inmates back into the community
