Rohe map for Tapuika.

Te Takapu o Tapuika (the Tapuika tribal estate) begins with the arrival of Te Arawa waka. Whilst the waka was situated between the Owairakei Stream at Te Akau (Papamoa) and Motiti Island, Tia (father of Tapuika) stood at Tuaro a Tia to claim this rohe by way of taumau: "Mai i nga pae maunga ki te toropuke e tu kau mai ra ki te awa e rere mai ana, waiho te whenua ko Te Takapu o Taku tamaiti, a Tapuika." The interior boundaries were formed through take tupuna as our tupuna Tia made his way inland discovering and naming Lake Taupo nui a Tia. His son Tapuika remained in the lands claimed by his father. Thus through noho tuturu Tapuika claim mana whenua, mana moana.
